yes youre not wrong but he contributed to society's judgment because the standards he made up himself were so harshly critical and condescending of anyone who didn't meet his vision he didn't want to trump the rich, he wanted to join them in their judgment, just not be judged by them himself. it was no more accessible to poor people than the frocks and cravats he did away with. it still took hours to get dressed and you needed a valet to help you put on these styles of suits!!
now menswear is much easier but there are still the echoes of this high-powered magnifying glass he viewed his life under.. it's not healthy..... men so afraid what other men will think that they refuse to stray away from a narrow definition of what's "appropriate style" for a guy to wear everything muted..... men's fashion was so vibrant before
