[Video] un: fireworks

Hello. I painted a few pictures recently. I'm trying to pick which one to give to Queen Elphame as a gift. King Arthur said that she'd like gifts that took effort over anything store bought.

[She's mindful of the advice King Arthur gave about avoiding giving anything too personal lest the fae queen be able to enchant it, which has at least helped her rule out the picture of her familiar. The iguana-sized salamander familiar sits contentedly on her shoulder as she speaks.]

I don't think I'll give her the one I painted of Enmei, so please let me know whether you think the flower or the butterfly painting would be a better gift for a queen. Thank you.

[Thrawn takes a moment to study each one of those paintings before he makes his reply. And of course he takes a moment to use his magic to make holographic copies of those pieces. He's gotten quite good at that now.]

Both of these seem to have taken some effort to create, though I would say that the flower may be more to the queen's tastes.

[A woman's face popped over his shoulder, making him look annoyed.]

[ Baiken peers at the images a bit, blinking, before letting out a small hum. ]

You're pretty talented... Color me surprised.

[ She supposed even the daughters of ninja clans were given that kind of instruction, thinking on it, but it was still impressive to see it in person. ]

Gasp! [Like, he says the word "gasp."] Those are super lit! I think the queen would be stoked to get either, I know I would! [Wink.]

But I think the flower is more... "queenly"? With it being blue! Ya feel?

Wow..

[ There's obvious admiration in Minako's voice, even as she only lets out that singular sound at first. It's drawn out a little, and her voice trails off afterwards, so it takes a few moments before she's spoken on.

A few moments more to just admire these paintings. ]

They're so pretty! I had no idea you were so good at this! [ Not.. that Minako knows a whole lot about the other in the first place, but sssh, it's clearly just a figure of speech here. ] This is like the sort of thing you'd see in an art gallery!

[ That might sound like a wild exaggeration to some, but Minako truly seems to mean it. The look on her face is too genuine for anything else. ]

Oh wow! These are gorgeous! You painted these yourself?

They're both beautiful, but if you're giving one to the queen, then maybe the flower? It has a bit of an elegant, regal feeling to it.

Thank you. I hope she likes it. I thought that if she was going to invite us all to visit her that I should bring a gift for her.

Oh, I'm only trying to decide between the flower and the butterfly. Enmei likes the picture of him so I was going to give that one to him.

[This is...an odd manner of speech, but he's being kind and she doesn't want to be rude, so she doesn't comment.]

[She's diligent about her training to be sure, but this? This is one of the rare things she does purely for enjoyment and relaxation.]

Which one do you think I should give the queen?

Thank you. I worked on them in school. I thought I was just going to stick to the practical things, but I do like drawing and painting, so I took art class, too.

It was considered a big cultural thing, among my people, that swordsmen also practice other arts, that one informs the other...

[ A small huff. ] Never got into it myself, unless you count sake brewing.

[ She didn't. ]

I think she will. You're quite talented.

There's an art class? [ She actually had no idea that was offered. Then again, she hadn't really been looking. ] Wow, I guess I've been missing out.

But yeah, definitely give the flower painting for the queen.

[ Apparently she got so caught up in the idea of how nice these look that she hadn't even considered the actual question yet.. so Minako has to pause and think about that for a second now. ]

Oh wow, I'm really not sure.. I mean, they're both pretty! And I'm not sure what kind of colours that sort of queen would prefer.. [ Minako is so not familiar with the fae, after all.

Let alone familiar enough to know their favourite colours. ]

Maybe you could just give her both..? That shouldn't be insulting. After all, it means it's a bigger gift!

[ The raspy voice of a gruff teenager, with a steeliness to his tone that shows his certainty on the matter... but... he doesn't explain that. All he offers is: ]

The flower. Without a doubt.

I made them in art class. I'm glad I took your suggestion to go to school.

[At first it was purely for practical reasons, but admittedly she'd signed up for other classes that weren't essential just to explore them.]

Sake brewing can be an art. I'm allowed to have a small amount of sake sometimes at formal events. I've tasted some that was well made and some that wasn't.

[It's not her favourite thing, but it's okay to have that small amount of it for manners' sake.]

Pretty sure most of the stuff I make would break your jaw, kid.

[ Which was to say it was somewhere between strong and battery acid in terms of kick. ]

I suppose. I can't see any reason why it would be offensive. King Arthur just said it should be something that took effort and wasn't store bought.

[There's a short pause before she continues.]

He said they like sweets, but I'm not very good at cooking or baking.

[Might as well put that out there in case Minako is good at either of those things and is looking for an idea.]

I'll take your word for it. If you ever make something mild to share with others, I'd be happy to sit down and have a bit with you.

[Just a little cup, like what she's allowed on occasion at home. She's curious at what Baiken might make, and how the local food might influence the flavour.]

[ Baiken was younger than her when she had her first drink, so she doesn't feel bothered by her idea. But making something more to others tastes... ]

I think I could try making something more palatable.

Yes. I'm enjoying gym class, too. And the magic classes.

[When you're a kid ninja, phys. ed is a walk in the park compared to regular training. She's a fan.]

I do. It's how I train my eyes...and I like being able to create something interesting to look at. It's good for when I'm recovering from injuries, too.

If you don't want to share, why not just keep making it as strong as you normally do?

No, I'm not an artist myself. I study art, for artwork is the soul of a person or culture.

[ Minako does seem to consider the idea for a moment, but.. well, she's pretty sure that if she'll try to bake anything, the end result will definitely seem like an insult, even when it wouldn't be intended as one..

So she discards the idea for now. ]

Hey, it's fine! I bet they'll get totally bored of sweets anyway if everyone gives them some of those. You're giving them some.. [ She pauses, looking for the right word. Then she nods, adding: ] Variety!

[ And pretty variety, on top of that! ]

If it's paper, present it in a fine scroll. If it's on a canvas, find a silver frame.

I should take a look at some of the other classes then. Anything good you recommend?

I'm sure she will! Especially something as pretty as that!
